Childbirth Education

Having a child for the first time or the fifth time is an experience unlike anything else on earth. I have been lucky enough to welcome many beautiful babies and support families through the process. Knowing the stages of birth and hearing from an experienced doula how this might look unique to you, is powerful knowledge to take with you when your baby is ready to be born.

My goal is to inform and empower parents without fear, providing them with tools to navigate their labour and birth journey positively while also preparing for the unexpected.

These are four, private, two-hour classes to educate and prepare you for childbirth.

Placenta Services

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the birther’s placenta for consumption during the postpartum period. The placenta is washed, steamed or sliced raw, dehydrated, ground, and then placed into capsules. It doesn’t stop there either! The placenta can also be made into tinctures, salves, smoothies and be used for beautiful prints and keepsakes.

    • Basic Heated Method $225
      (steamed before dehydrating)
    • Tincture 2 x 2 oz. Bottles $35
Made by cutting off a small piece of raw placenta and fermenting it in 100-proof alcohol for 6 weeks. It is used for the first menses postpartum, menopause, or for the beginning menses of the birth person’s daughter.
    • Placenta Print $30
    • Cord Keepsake $5
    • Ceremonial Placenta (Dehydrated and ground for burying and planting) $150  – This service is for parents that don’t want to consume their placenta but would like to plant their placenta in a pot or garden. Dehydrating the placenta first keeps animals at bay and is gentler on the root system of a plant.

Please note: Fees also include 3 freezer ziplock bags, a cooler, pick up & delivery within Port Alberni, storage and handling instructions, dosage suggestions, and one follow-up check-in via text. A $50 deposit at the time of signing is required and the remainder due on or before 38 weeks. Please refer to the contract for further details.

I am trained through the International Postpartum and Placenta Association as well as I received my Level 1 Food Safe and my Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control for Encapsulators certification.

You have been a great blessing to me. All your support and encouragement kept me motivated through my pregnancy. Your kindness you extended into snacks and treats and placenta care has been a dream come true. There is no amount to max out the gratitude for your warm heart and friendship. This wouldn’t have been the same – or even that memorable- without you. Thank You!

Service

Reflexology

1 hour $50 ~ Clients only

During pregnancy, Reflexology can be used through all three trimesters. A light pressure is used while avoiding the pelvic region reflexes.  If miscarriage, bleeding and or placental disturbances are a concern, then it is best to avoid Reflexology for the first twelve weeks and re-evaluate with your health care practitioner after that.

Reflexology in pregnancy may help with morning sickness, headaches, pain and discomfort, loss of bladder control, backache, stress and anxiety, lack of sleep and fatigue, digestive problems such as constipation, water retention and leg cramps. I will always provide reflexology in labour at your request. May add aromatherapy at no extra charge.

The following is a list of the most common ways in which Reflexology is of value during labour:

  • Stimulates Oxytocin production
  • May help to regulate contractions
  • Pain and relaxation
  • Helping with urination
  • Helping with bowel movements
  • Back labor
  • Hyperventilating
  • Has an energetic effect as it strengthens the body’s ability to cope with labor
  • Has a grounding effect on the birthing person
  • Can possibly shorten length of labor
